Hayden wins first state championship in 22 years!

The Wildcats are state champions.

Hayden girls basketball took down Bishop Miege 57-52 in the 4A State Championship, claiming its first title since 2004.

The Wildcats came out strong, leading 14-2 after the first quarter and 29-14 at the break.

Bishop Miege would rally with 23 fourth-quarter points and get within four points of Hayden under two minutes. The Wildcats would hold them off to secure the victory.

Hailey Schmidtlein erupted for a game-high 24 points in the win. Blakely Walter and Lauren Borjon had eight points each.

Hayden shot just under 49% from the floor in the win and shot 6-9 from beyond the arc.

The Wildcats were the No. 4 seed in the tournament. Hayden beat Andale by 17 in the opening round, followed by a five-point win over No. 1 Wellington in the semifinals.
