For the past 16 years, Top City Crush has provided a safe and positive environment for boys and young men in Topeka. Originally launched as an after-school program at Hillcrest Community Center, it has evolved into a training ground for aspiring athletes. "We wanted to create a football program to teach the fundamentals to kids who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity," said director Tobian Thomas. Alongside tutoring, the program offers guest speakers, community service opportunities, and athletic training, fostering education, family, and competition.

With hundreds of student-athletes passing through its ranks, Top City Crush has helped many launch successful collegiate and professional athletic careers. Notable alumni include Elijah Lee, a former Kansas State player drafted by the Minnesota Vikings, and Teven Jenkins, an offensive tackle for the Chicago Bears. Coaches at Top City Crush, including those with high school, college, and professional experience, focus on character development and support for their players, emphasizing the importance of education alongside sports.

The program operates through community efforts, relying on fundraisers and donations. Thomas envisions a future where Top City Crush expands its resources to connect student-athletes with college coaches and provide mentorship. As former participants like Will White return to inspire the next generation, the program continues to grow, offering a space for youth to develop and thrive. “It’s a program that has saved, altered, and changed lives,” Thomas said, reflecting on the lasting impact of Top City Crush in the community.
